Dr AC Arun is a Gastroenterologist practising in Madurai. Hailing from Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu, he completed his MBBS from Madras Medical College in Chennai and went on to obtain the MD (Medicine) and DM (Gastroenterology) postgraduate and postdoctoral degrees from the renowned Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. He completed his residency training in internal medicine as well as senior residency in gastroenterology at PGIMER, over a total period of six years. Currently, Dr. Arun works as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist at Velammal Medical College Hospital and Lily Mission Hospital in Madurai. He is also designated as Assistant Professor in the Gastroenterology division of the department of Internal Medicine at Velammal Medical College & Research Institute.

Dr. AC Arun’s areas of specialisation are diseases related to stomach, intestine and liver, including peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), cirrhosis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, colonic polyp, ulcerative colitis and gastrointestinal cancers. He is well trained in performing therapeutic and interventional endoscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound and capsule endoscopy.

Dr. Arun recently travelled to the US to present an abstract at the DDW Conference in Washington DC and visited the Florida Hospital in Orlando to learn advanced endoscopic techniques. He is skilled in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGIE), therapeutic UGIE including variceal banding, sclerotherapy for varices, glue injection for fundal varices, bipolar cautery, argon plasma coagulation (APC), polypectomy, hemoclip application, adrenaline injection in peptic ulcer, as well as endoscopic placement of nasojejunal /nasogastric tube, oesophageal stricture dilatation, diagnostic colonoscopy, therapeutic colonoscopy including polypectomy. He is also adept at enteroscopic procedures such as sphincterotomy and bile duct stone removal, brush cytology from strictures, biliary stricture dilatation and stent placement.

Dr. Arun has excelled in academic activities as well, bagging medals in medical school, making presentations at various conferences, writing articles for publication in international journals, and participating as a guest speaker at continuing medical education (CME) sessions.

Dr. AC Arun is adept at treating patients complaining of stomach pain, heartburn, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, gastrointestinal bleeding, jaundice and loss of weight or appetite.
